The Black Horse pub, Climping, West Sussex.

This Grade ll listed pub is a new addition to the Historic Sussex Hotels portfolio, joining their existing Baliffscourt Hotel & Spa in Climping, Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa in Cuckfield and the Spread Eagle Hotel & Spa in Midhurst.

The Black Horse pub opened in March 2024, offering guests at the nearby Baliffscourt an alternative style of eating and drinking, as it is in walking distance from one another!

The refurbished pub offers a brand new bar and timber framed restaurant extension as well as charming accommodation decorated using beautiful fabrics, antiques and art.

 

The new extension on the rear of the pub boasts a stunning green oak frame, meticulously handcrafted to seamlessly harmonize with the timeless elegance of the Bailiffscourt Spa. Each beam and joint exudes a craftsmanship reminiscent of bygone eras, evoking a sense of heritage and tradition.

 

Original parquet flooring in the bar was uncovered and refurbished as well as the fireplace rebuilt; purpose designed bar and banquette seating was built and a private dining room was incorporated in the ground floor plan.

​

A new terrace was built for exterior dining and by reworking the first-floor space, seven double bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms, were created as guest bedroom suites, two with outside sun terraces.
