ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this key role is responsible for accurately overseeing all daily bookkeeping activities and internal systems to ensure all financial transactions and processes across the businesses are expertly managed.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To ensure all financial systems and processes are set up to support the businesses to help inform decision making with a clear picture of the financial position.

  • To accurately record and verify all financial transactions by maintaining the sales and purchase ledgers for each project.

  • To be responsible for bank reconciliation.

  • To process all supplier payments accurately and on time.

  • To be responsible for all end to end payroll administration, reporting and record keeping and dealing with employee queries.

  • To ensure effective internal and credit control systems are established and maintained.

  • To proactively support each project with financial information / guidance to aid commercial decisions and plan for the future.

  • To collate statements and prepare accurate and well-presented financial reports where required.

  • To support with the preparation of management accounts and month end reporting.

  • To gather the information required and work closely with the Company Accountant to ensure all smooth and accurate processing of information.

  • To prepare year end records for submission to the Company Accountant.

  • To prepare and submit monthly VAT and CIS returns. 

  • To prepare reports on performance over time and identifying areas where costs can be reduced.

  • To liaise with HMRC as and when required.

  • To ensure all businesses are legally compliant.

  • To keep abreast of relevant legal changes / requirements.

  • To identify continuous improvement efficiencies by fully reviewing finance systems and processes.

  • To process CIS and VAT returns

 

OTHER DUTIES

  • To represent the company professionally at all times including answering the phone when in the office

  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks in accordance with operational needs as

reasonably requested.

  • Helping with HR system maintenance

 

SALARY

  • £27-32k based on experience – Full Time required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of relevant best practice, law and regulation is essential.

  • Excellent bookkeeping knowledge.

  • A good understanding of VAT treatment. 

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of cloud accounting/bookkeeping software, including Xero.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION

  • A good level of education is essential.

  • AAT qualified, or higher, (or qualified by experience) is essential.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a relevant bookkeeping role is essential.

  • Experience of working within a construction environment is desirable.

  • Experience of setting up / maintaining effective internal financial systems is desirable.

  • Excellent Word and Excel Skills are essential.
